Handbook

This Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School scholar handbook contains valuable information that both scholars and parents will find useful throughout any given school year.
MOBILE PHONE USAGE
In accordance with the Indiana school cell phone law, Indiana Senate Bill 185 prohibits portable communication devices like cellphones, tablets, laptops and gaming devices during instructional time. This is to eliminate distractions during instructional time, reduce altercations of scholars in response to social media postings, prevent bullying, and academic dishonesty.
Cell phone use is not permitted during the school day. All scholars must have devices silenced and put away not on their person. Cell phones are not to be carried in purses, bags, backpacks or pockets. There will be no cell phone usage in any part of our building from 8:15 to 3:15. That includes hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium etc.
  • If a parent/guardian needs to contact their scholar during school hours, call the front desk.
Failure to comply will be referred to the cell phone violation consequences. No exceptions.
Cell Phone Violation Consequences:
1st Offense: Phone is confiscated and will only be returned to a parent/guardian who must       come in for a disciplinary conference.
2nd Offense: Phone is confiscated and will only be returned to a parent/guardian who must come in for a disciplinary conference and scholar will be suspended for 5 days.
3rd Offense: Phone is confiscated and will only be returned to a parent/guardian who must come in for a disciplinary conference and scholar will be suspended for 10 days pending an expulsion hearing.
Emergency Telephone Usage:
Scholars will not be called to the front office during the school day for a phone call unless it is an emergency. In case of an emergency, parents should call the school main line (317-545-1745).
The front office telephone will be made available for scholar use after school only. Attempts should be made to inform parents of after-school plans the evening before.
